Program and Notes

Dr. Clarke's program has at its center the complete nineth organ symphony, Opus 70 of Charles-Marie Widor. This landmark work, the "Symphonie gothique" was dedicated to, and inspired by the great cathedral of Rouen. Complementing the Widor are well-known romantic French organ favorites, including Vierne's Carillon of Westminster, and works by Tournemire, Messiaen, Franck, and Couperin.

Dr. Clarke brings out the French character of the 4-manual Noack organ (originally 1930s vintage Aeolian-Skinner), which blooms in the sumptuous acoustic of the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas.

Recorded with multi-channel DSD® (Direct Stream Digital®) technology, and released as a conventional stereo audio CD. An extended essay on the music, and the organ specifications are found in the liner notes in the CD booklet.
