Dr. Clarke's program has at its center the complete nineth organ symphony, Opus 70 of Charles-Marie Widor. This landmark work, the "Symphonie gothique" was dedicated to, and inspired by the great cathedral of Rouen. Complementing the Widor are well-known romantic French organ favorites, including Vierne's Carillon of Westminster, and works by Tournemire, Messiaen, Franck, and Couperin.

The Lutheran chorale setting of the Lord's Prayer, "Vater Unser im Himmelreich" serves as a theme for this CD, recorded on the Noack organ of Christ the King Lutheran in Houston. Settings by Scheidemann, Buxtehude, Böhm, Lübeck, and Bach alternate with Preludes and Fugues. A concluding Sonata by Mendelssohn quotes the chorale theme as well.
The organ of Christ the King is notable as one of the few American organs in central German style, modelled after the work of Zacharias Hildebrandt who was well-known to J.S. Bach. Dresden organ builder Kristian Wegscheider served as consultant to the Noack firm in the construction of this unusual and exceptional instrument.
We hear a number of works by Dietrich Buxtehude, and also hear several organ settings of the "Vater unser" chorale melody by four baroque composers, as well as the treatment of the same chorale by the German romantic Felix Mendelssohn.
