And On Earth, Peace: A Chanticleer Mass

This CD is a significant milestone in Chanticleer’s long history of commissioning new works and supporting contemporary composers.  All but one of the five Mass composers represented wrote for Chanticleer for the first time on this recording; all were selected for the project by Chanticleer’s music director, Joseph H. Jennings.

This Mass is a celebration of the life of Chanticleer’s founder, Louis I. Botto (1951-1997), on the tenth anniversary of his death, and each of the individual movements of the Mass is dedicated to an eminent citizen of San Francisco, Chanticleer’s home.  The program consists of contemporary works by Douglas J. Cuomo, Kamran Ince, Shulamit Ran, Ivan Moody, and Michael McGlynn, with plainchant and historic anthems by Andrea Gabrieli and Carlo Geswaldo.  20-page booklet with full texts and translations.
