MESSIAH George Frideric Handel arr. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Handel and Haydn Choir and Orchestra Andrew Parrott, director
Handel wrote Messiah, but its popularity on the European continent was helped tremendously by an arrangement created by Mozart. Adapting Handel's score for baroque orchestra, Mozart added woodwinds and brass for his slightly larger, classical orchestra. Mozart's version was later adapted for the enormous large-chorus and orchestra performances, but the original version, with period instruments, is a delightful variation of this well-loved work. If you haven't heard Mozart's version of Messiah, this specially priced double CD is well worth it. [2 CD set] |
