| The Biggs Bach Book 1958 Flentrop organ, Harvard University 1761 Johann Andreas Silbermann organ, Cathedral of Arlesheim, Switzerland E. Power Biggs, organ
This recording is a compilation of some of Bigg's best-selling recordings. The Anna Magdalena Notebook selections were recorded on the Flentrop at Harvard—everyone will recognize many of these tunes! Recordings of cantata movements are re-mastered from his LP "Music of Jubilee" which includes numerous selections with chamber orchestra, including "The Sheep shall safely graze" and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring".
Time magazine opined in December 1964: "Virtuoso E. Power Biggs has appropriated for his organ and a chamber orchestra whatever music of Bach's he felt was jubilant enough. Thus Biggs performs a good many songs without words, including 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' and 'Ah, Dearest Jesu' from the Christmas Oratorio. Purists will object, but the jubilation is continuous and unrestrained."
