Rarely performed, and rarely recorded, this oratorio uses Honneger's original (and unusual!) orchestration. Scored for 'cello, bass, two flutes, oboe/English horn, clarinets, basson, horn, trumpets, trombone, percusion, piano and harmonium, the work was an instant success when it debuted in 1921. Sung in English, with full texts provided in the booklet.
