A Fine Choral Combination July 16, 2007
Reviewer: John Palmer from Bellevue, WA United States
This album is a nice combination of not only some fine classic hymns but a choice selection of anthems from the general choral repertoire. Evenly disbursed throughout the recording of Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, NJ these pieces are a fine addition to a seasoned professional musicians library or as a gift to the choral and organ music lover. Standouts are an exquisite interpretation of How Lovely are the Messengers by Mendelssohn and Vaughn-Williams O Taste and See, and O How Amiable. I personally would have liked to have seen a bit more harmonization and perhaps some free descants on the hymns. The organists on this recording Joan Lippincott and Ronald Arnatt excel choral accompanists but again on some of the hymns some free accompaniment would have been an added pleasure. Still as mentioned before a nice addition to anyones library.
