5 of 5 An amazing recording January 1, 2014
Reviewer: Jonathan Kleefield from Newton Centre, MA United States
The previous reviewer has given due accolades to the superb musicians and their choice of music.   I must also add that the recorded sound more than does justice to these fine performances.  Reading the liner notes,  it was no suprise why this disc is sonically so special- the recording engineer was Shawn Murphy, recognized as one of the greatest in his field.   Considered by John Williams as literally his "right hand man" when it comes to sound recording, as well as a frequent partner of Steven Spielberg in his film projects,  he brings his unique talents to make this disk one of true "demonstration quality."  With the right reproducing equipment, the brass literally fills your listening room with the  most realistic clarity and bite that perfectly complements the organ.   And, most of alll,  Mr. Murphy and his associates have captured the cathedral's acoustic with a realism that will astound you.   In summary,  a superb addition to anyone's recorded library- truly a must buy!

5 of 5 Stunning! November 2, 2010
Reviewer: Christian Ellithorpe from Streamwood, IL United States
While the Brass Ensemble is the Star of this disc, any Organ enthusiast will quickly fall in love with this Stunning release. A Carillon of bells open, followed by a wave of joyful energy in the finest & most original arrangement of Joy to The World I've ever heard. This carol is so ubiquitous, it's hard to remember the last time it seemed fresh and new to me. There's some rarely featured pieces. A perfect case in point is track 4, one which will resonate especially well for Brass Ensemble fans. It's the Classic Philip Jones Brass Ensemble/Elgar Howarth arrangement of Greensleeves. The Bay Brass Ensemble's performance EXCEEDS that of the Legendary PJBE. Organ also has moments which burn as brightly, such as Handel's "Hallelujah". Finally, any truly "Great" Christmas album generally features one or more rare pieces. My favourite on this disc is the Majestic Schutz "Psalm VIII", the first time I've ever heard this piece on a Christmas disc.  This CD is full of surprises like this. A++!
