• that you don’t talk about yourself. There is not a hint of ego in anything you say.
• that you don’t go on about what awful people we all are. There is no sense in which you presume to know better than we do what is wrong with us. In fact, there is almost nothing about what is wrong with us.
• that you don’t engage in what some would call “virtue signalling”: letting everyone know that you have the right beliefs about social justice, politics, and being nice. One might even get the impression that there is more to being a Christian than being a liberal.
• that you take with utmost seriousness the liturgical calendar and the lectionary and trust that these are sources of richness and that they speak to the basic questions of life and death.
• what you say about memory, and the importance of communal memory.
• what you say about how singing makes words sacred.
• that the whole book reflects love and longing for a deeper experience of the Mystery.
