Brian A. Schmidt is a conductor and composer with a passion for growing the choral arts in America. Brian completed graduate degrees in choral conducting at the University of North Texas (UNT) under the direction of Dr. Jerry McCoy and Dr. Richard Sparks, along with one year of concurrent study in the prestigious Priddy Fellowship program for arts leadership at UNT. Since its founding in 2009, his leadership has guided the South Dakota Chorale to several highlight experiences, including the production of this recording, their first commercial album under his direction (with Grammy® award-winning record producer, Blanton Alspaugh). He also arranged the Chorale's first guest-conductor residency under the direction of Grammy® award-winning conductor, Charles Bruffy, director of the Kansas City Chorale, Phoenix Chorale, and Kansas City Symphony Chorus.

As a composer, his award-winning works have been sung by choirs across the country. Most recently, the male vocal ensemble Cantus recorded Brian's "O Magnum Mysterium" on their Christmas with Cantus album, released in October of 2011.
